Set nick (Eggdrop Configuration)

From BotHouse MediaWiki

Jump to: navigation, search

This is a requirement of configuring an eggdrop bot in order to have a specified nickname. This configuration option may not have any wildcard (?) characters within it as it is the bot's primary nickname. This is the nickname that the bot will attempt to connect on IRC first, then using its altnick as an alternative.

[edit] StormBot Uses

The StormBot script uses the nickname setting in order to determine its first command trigger. Among the rest are altnick and the first letter and last letter of the nickname.

[edit] Warnings

If this nickname is not registered, the bot may not be able to gain it as other IRC users may have already taken it. It is recommended, if possible, that the nickname be registered so that the bot is entitled to it upon connecting to IRC.

If the network the bot connects to does not happen to have nickname services, the bot will fall back to its altnick configuration in order to properly connect. The altnick is a fall-back configuration which usually includes a wildcard in the case that the first attempted nickname cannot be obtained (for whatever reason.)
