Eggdrop

Eggdrop is a IRC robot created by Robey Pointer circa 1990 as a channel management system. It provides internal user access lists and ban lists to aide in the protection and administration of an IRC channel.

Eggdrop technology was ground-breaking in the early 1990s as it provided a central location for user lists and ban lists to be managed by authorized users in a channel instead of each user managing their own. This meant that bans would always be enforced, not just when a specific user was online.

While the bot (short for "robot") has much more to offer, it is beyond the scope of this article to document all the features.
